WordPress Version 4.5- What is new in it?

WordPress has a history of evolution from a blogging platform to a feature full Content Management System. Now it has been developed as one of the best Content Management System. It provides the users with the freedom to develop their own website and easily manage their content. It went on improving over the years with its every new version.

Now, WordPress version 4.5 “COLEMAN” has been released. It has a lot of new exciting features. It makes WordPress more and more convenient for the users. This is a step to improve its features and usefulness.

New Inline Link editor:
It is one of the most exciting additions to the version 4.5. It is a standout feature which enables you to insert links with ease. Creating a link in your post was never too easy. You just need to press on the edit/insert link button in the text editor menu and you will be able to put the URL to link your text in a specified pop-up. You can also use Ctrl+K command to show the inline insert link menu. Using the new link editor is supremely easy Highlight the text you want to make a link. Click on the insert/edit link button or use Ctrl+K command, type the URL in the pop-up and you have done with the task of creating a link.

Theme Logo Support:

The customization has grown to a new level in WordPress with this new version with the addition of Theme Logo support feature.This feature was a part of the Jetpack plugin previously, now it has been added to the WordPress core support. Now it is possible for the users to upload a logo from the theme customizer.

Using the Theme Logo Support:

  • Go to the appearance Menu
  • Click on customize
  • Select “Site Identity”
  • You will receive the option of Adding a logo image
  • After uploading the logo you can check in the preview that how it will look in the real-time.

Customize Responsive Preview:

The number of internet users on mobile is increasing day by day. So responsiveness has to be a top priority in a WordPress site. There is a cool addition in this regard in the WordPress version 4.5. You can see the preview of the site and check how it is going to look on a desktop, tablet or a mobile device.

Using Responsive Preview:

  • Go to the customizer
  • select site identity
  • Find the responsive preview options at the bottom

You can click on the desktop, tablet or mobile icon to check how your site will look on these devices.

Optimized image size generation:

With this feature images can be generated more efficiently. It will be possible to optimize the image and reduce its size up to 50% while quality and visibility being almost the same. It will improve the performance of the sites on small screens.

Text Formatting Shortcuts:

These shortcuts allow the user to quickly add formatting markup to the text content. The shortcuts in new WordPress version include ‘ ___’ for code and dashes(—) for a horizontal line.

Moderate comment screen:

With WordPress 4.5, the biggest change users will notice is the design improvements to the comment moderation screen, where they land after clicking on any of the links in a comment notification email.

Comment content will be displayed in a formatted way instead of a plain block of text. It will include updated message styles. The comment email message links will be found appended with #wpbody-content for accessibility. If the comment permalink exists then the comment date can be wrapped in a link to avoid the confusion.

It includes navigation via a text link at the bottom of the comment on the Edit Comment screen.

Selective Refresh:

In previous versions when a change has to be applied in the customizer, the entire page has to reload. In version 4.5 WordPress has come with a more comprehensive framework which enables the customizer to allow a selective refresh. With this entire preview screen reload will be avoided.

Backbone and Underscore update:

Backbone And Underscore have been updated. WordPress 4.5 will have updated versions of Backbone and Underscore. Backbone is upgraded from 1.1.2 to 1.2.3 and Underscore is upgraded from 1.6.0 to 1.8.3.

Embed Templates:

The new version of wordPress splits the embed templates into two parts. Now they can be directly overridden by the themes via template hierarchy.

Maximum comment field length:

The WordPress 4.5 version will enable the comment filed to enforce the maximum length of each fields respective database column.

The default length settings are as follow:

  • Comment 65525 characters
  • Name 245 characters
  • Email 100 characters
  • Url 200 characters
